Whether you are in your own car or a hire car, driving is a great way to get to Mt Buller. There are quite a few ways you can get to Mansfield, the closest major town to Mt Buller:
- Via Whittlesea and Yea from Plenty Road;
- Along the Hume Hwy northbound to Tallarook and then to Yea;
- Along the Hume Hwy southbound to the Benalla/Mansfield turnoff;
- or along the Maroondah Hwy through Yarra Glen to Yea and then on to Mansfield.
Mansfield is a pretty regional centre and a great place to grab a coffee or linger over a long lunch.
In winter you can conveniently collect all hire equipment, wheel chains and pre-pay resort gate entry at the big Buller Sports store on the Maroondah Hwy entrance into town.
The Mt Buller resort entry gate is an easy 20 minute drive from Mansfield through rolling farmland. During summer there is no charge to enter the resort and you can drive up the scenic mountain road and into Mt Buller Village. The drive up the mountain will take approximately 30 minutes - a little longer if you stop to visit the famous Mt Buller Gnome Tree on the way up - and you will arrive at the Mt Buller Chalet Hotel where there is plenty of parking right at the door.
In the snow season only authorised vehicles are able to access the Village. To find out about parking and the simplest way to get to the hotel - click here.
Alternatively, sit back and relax in one of the many coaches that take individuals or groups up to Mt Buller and back regularly. There are a number of companies that operate coach transport and day tours. Click here for further coach information.
